Colby Katz unravels the richness and complexities of contemporary American subcultures by providing glimpses into worlds that are as inaccessible as they are comprehensible. illegal fight clubs, high glitz beauty pageant contestants, and the Ku Klux Klan are only a few of the divergent subjects revealing themselves within her visual scope. Katz incorporates an empathetic approach to a documentary methodology while seeking out oddities and contradictions in these furtive cultural landscapes. Her achievement may not be that she has told us the other side of the story; but that she invites us to see this world through the subject's eyes.
